Unsure of how to tackle the challenging floor plan of their new living room, first time home-owners, Natalie and Eric contacted ZMI for advice. By combining stylish new pieces with a few of the couple's pre-existing furnishings, we were able to create a functional, and beautiful living space -- as well as a cozy seating area with a view!
Upper East Side Living Room
For this consultation project, the client sought a redesign of her Upper East Side apartment. She asked that the design incorporate a few of her existing furnishings and accessories--having both financial and sentimental attachments to many of her things. It was determined that the client's style was transitional--leaning more on the traditional side--mixed with a bit of "glam". In the final design, one of her existing pieces--an olive green arm chair--acts as a focal point for the room while introducing color to the mostly neutral palette.
Preliminary Concept Sketch
For this student project, our client--having recently received a large inheritance at the passing of a family member--sought to build her dream home near Portland, OR. This home needed to accommodate some very special requests including: a panic room, a large pantry and several guest bedrooms to house her frequent visitors.
The final design includes a loft-style guest/party house, a near-Olympic-sized swimming pool, a spa, and a hidden library, which can be accessed from a secret door in the Master Bedroom. In keeping with the local aesthetics, the exterior is a contemporary interpretation of craftsman and bungalow styles.
Kitchen (from island).
Located in Las Vegas, NV, Hotel Clepsydra was designed to provide its patrons with the unique opportunity to experience all seasons--Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter--at the same time.
The floor plan of this student project consists of four equal quarters (one for each of the seasons) positioned around a circular casino --representative of the annual cycle. Seasonally-neutral spaces, such as the casino, draw inspiration from the inner workings of a grandfather clock -- which decends from the clepsydra, the ancient time telling device after which the hotel is named.
In addition to the distinctly decorated guest suites, each season boasts an attraction designed to enhance its own unique atmosphere.
